This workshop explores Esmat Elhalaby’s Parting Gifts of Empire, a study of the intellectual history of decolonization through largely overlooked thinkers from West and South Asia. The book examines how scholars and cultural workers built new forms of knowledge and institutions amid incomplete decolonizations, tracing ideas of translation, solidarity, and liberation across the Third World. At its center are the parallel partitions of British Palestine and British India, presented as intertwined moments of rupture and global imagining.
